Local Beauty: Keeki Pure & Simple

We were introduced to Keeki Pure & Simple from our friends at zoey + joey.  All their products are super kid-friendly pthalate, paraben, gluten and petroleum free. Incredible, right? And to top it off, everything's made right here in Michigan and over 90% of their raw ingredients are from the USA.

Nick shot their products for an upcoming spot on Hautelook, a part of Nordstrom's. (We'll send out a reminder when they launch!) We're so thrilled that more people will be learning about this fantastic company. Their products including water-based nail polishes, sunscreen, lip balm and yummy smelling lotions are high quality and you feel great about using them. Here are a few of the highlights from our photo shoot at their corporate office this week.

Yay for Keeki!

Food Photos: Mani Osteria and Isalita

We hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th.

While it was generally a quiet and relaxing week, we were busy with a delicious shoot for two prominent restaurants in town. Sister restaurants, Mani Osteria and Isalita were in need of some representation for their websites and we were happy to oblige. Actually, N went in and did all the work and I admired the results while my stomach rumbled.

Mani opened back in 2011 to a bunch of buzz and was named one of the top 25 Italian restaurants in U.S. last year. It's one of our favorite places to catch a quick bite for lunch meetings or sit down to share a larger meal with friends. Previous diners include Mario Batalli and Bobby Flay. Chef Brendan McCall worked with owner Adam Baru to create a menu that pairs the traditional with innovative Italian flavors. With such dishes as their Taglietelle with Carbonera and bacon and Shrimp Spiedini served with lemon, pickled chili and mint, it's not difficult to see why they're one of the most exciting restaurants in the area.

Isalita opened next door earlier this year and the reviews have been phenomenal. Lots of delish taco options like pulled pork and salmon ceviche complement fresh guacamole and refreshing drinks.

Are we making you hungry yet?   Look on and we swear, you can almost smell the wonderful aromas.

Mi Familia: A Family Portrait Session

Vince and Lisa (parents to yesterday's adorable Luigi) came out to the studio for their first family portrait session with us.

Not only were they a really photogenic family, they wasted no time getting into character and making eyes at the camera.

They felt right at home with each other and we got to see some goofy shots.

And some very sweet ones.

And no one had to hold a gun to dad's head for him to get silly.

Couples Photo Opp: Jason + Joe

Our dear friends Jason and Joe visited us over the weekend and mentioned they needed a photo of themselves for a family project. N jumped at the opportunity and brought along lighting since we were planning on shooting close to dusk and it had been cloudy most of the day. As we walked back to their B&B, it started to drizzle and we took cover on the front porch. Moments later, the clouds parted and rays of light splayed across the "set." Foregoing the lighting, he was able to catch some great snapshots with natural light. Here are a few of our favorites of the handsome couple. A Bear of a Time: On the Set with Filmmaker Gus Péwé

Our good friend, artist and sculptor Tim Péwé has a son who's equally as talented in another medium - film. Gus is still a student (he'll be attending California Institute of the Arts this Fall) but a budding filmmaker that's already debuted his works in various places. This past week N shot a costume that came to be with the help of his parents and producer Robert Hoxie, with spiritual guidance from Tommy Colangelo. It's a costume that will be used in his upcoming film, Same Ghost Every Night, which reached a successful Kickstarter campaign goal recently. The photos not only document how awesome the costume is but will be used for promoting the film.

There was a lot of horsing around in the studio.

Below, Gus, Tommy and Robert keep it real.

Value has Three Legs.

At the grocery store the cost of peanut butter has gone up and so has orange juice. Little Debbie's Oatmeal Cream Pies haven't gotten more expensive, but they're smaller. What's not only held its price but upped its value? Tripods.

I give you snowy night time photography.

Latest Tribehaus Shoot : Three Lighting Set Ups, Three Looks

We've started shooting for Tribehaus on a regular basis and every week is an exciting chance to sharpen our creative processes. Last weekend we hit the nail on the head when we worked with model Maeve and collaborated again with make up artist Taryn Scalise of Tough Love MPD. Along with the "chief" of Tribehaus, Anna Bagozzi, the stars were in alignment because we had some of the most successful shots we've seen a long while. Don't you agree?
